“Maybe I should go back.”
“Do you really think he’s still there?”
“I mean, there’s a chance.”
“C’mon, Stacey. There’s not way a face like that didn’t get scooped up in minutes.”
“You’re probably right. I just can’t stop thinking about him. He had the most soulful eyes.”
Snerk. “Soulful? You’ve really got it bad.”
“Shut up! It’s true. And he had the best smile. You couldn’t help but smile back when he looked at you.”
“Yeah, his smile was pretty cute.”
“See? You can’t stop thinking about him either, Kim.”
“Only because you keep talking about him.”
“Fair. I just can’t get him out of my head. Have you ever had a moment that you let pass by, and you regretted it forever? You don’t even know if it would have made a difference in your life. It could have ruined your life. But you can’t stop thinking about it. Can’t stop thinking that, maybe, you let something major pass you by. But it’s too late. There’s nothing you can do now but wonder.”
“Jesus, Stacey, if you’re that hung up on the dog, let’s just go back to the fair. Maybe he hasn’t been adopted yet.”
“You mean it?”
“Yeah, but you’re on walking duty when the snow starts to fall.”
“I love you.”
“Love you too.”
